A piece of history right on our street.

H. Imbleau & Sons Foundry

The foundry's story began in the early 1860s when French-born moulder Luc Imbleau arrived in Renfrew. After gaining experience at the historic Forges du Saint-Maurice in Quebec and operating out of a local axe factory by the Bonnechere River, Imbleau established a dedicated foundry and moulding business on the south side of the river.

With the help of his industrious sons, the business steadily expanded. For five generations, the Imbleau family ran the foundry, specializing in cast-iron municipal infrastructure.

Their cast-iron manhole covers lined the streets of Ottawa and numerous other cities across Canada, earning the company a reputation as a world leader in its niche.

At the time of its closing in January 2012 due to shifting global market competition, it was recognized as North America’s oldest family-run foundry.
